It all began when my doctor said to me, “You’re going to be on high blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.”
Allow me to explain: I was a 23-year veteran of the mortgage industry, which is a high-stress job that required long hours and inconsistent results. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, was overweight and tired all the time. The stress of the the industry was finally getting to me. My doctor put me on beta blockers to reduce my high blood pressure.
Unfortunately, those beta blockers affected my cycling performance and made my asthma worse when on the bike. I went back to my doctor to find an alternative to the blood pressure meds and was told then that I really didn’t have a choice. I wasn’t convinced.
I just felt there had to be another way to get better
After doing a lot of research, I realized that my body was out of balance. I needed to get my life back in order. I dedicated myself to learning about healthy eating habits, mindfulness meditation, and studying massage and bodywork. I found myself gravitating towards Deep Neuromuscular Therapy as the basis for my treatment approach. It opened me up to a unique way of healing body imbalances that has literally changed my life, and the lives of my clients, for the better!
I also integrate Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy, Muscle Energy Technique, Yoga-Based Stretching, and Sports Massage. As a Certified Massage Therapist, I consider myself a lifelong student and continue to study and learn new ways to help my clients heal their bodies. It’s so much fun!
I love my new life!
This work has allowed me to find balance in my life, which then affected everything that I was doing; I eat better, I sleep better, I’m 20 pounds lighter and my blood pressure is 40 points lower! Thanks to the support of my family and friends, I left the mortgage industry, after 23 years, to open up Active Motion Massage Therapeutic Bodywork so I can help others find balance in their bodies as well!
What to expect
When we work together, I will help you understand your movement patterns, connect with your body’s pain points and help you learn about self care. We will create a game plan based on what we find, and we will work together to make that game plan happen. I’ve found that with athletes, even though they may look healthy, the athletic activity can lead to repetitive motion injuries and pain patterns that restrict mobility. And with the rest of us, the repetitive stresses of daily living, or the occasional injury, can create pain generating movement patterns and imbalanced connections between the brain and the body’s nervous system.
I will choose from different approaches of bodywork to address these issues on an individual basis. Ultimately, the goal is to provide you with a new sense of your body and to empower you with an education and better understanding of your body so you can take care of yourself.
This work has been life-changing for me, and I hope it will be for you as well!
